Musings from Medellin: Volume 6
The last time I wrote you I was still in hot, sunny Medellín, high off the experience I had there in January.
Now I am back in Atlanta and I’ve barely seen the sun all week.
Last week was rocky, ya'll!
Having gotten into a groove from being in Colombia for a month, being back felt really weird at first.
I was spoiled from taking $1.70-$5.00 Ubers everywhere. I had lots of cool things to do within walking distance from my apartment. (Damn you, Atlanta, for your un-walkability!) Every single thing filled me with awe and wonder, simply because it was new.
What I realize, though, is that my experience there wasn’t solely a result of the location. I was BEING different.
Even more than usual, I was open, curious, and spontaneous. I said, “Yes!” as often as possible and I talked to strangers, A LOT.
So, I asked myself, how can I maintain some of that energy back home, even in small ways?
Here is what I came up with:
I can try new restaurants.
I can take a different way home.
I can go out of my way to engage with new and different people.
I can take photos of the beauty around me, seeing old things with new eyes.
I can be more spontaneous.
On that note, I went to a concert at City Winery with my cousin Kanika on Friday night. When I found out she was taking a quick overnight trip the next day to visit family in Augusta, I tagged along. It was great!
What else should I consider doing? Let me know and I’ll share your thoughts in the next blog.
With love and besitos,
Charisse
