How the 5 Second Rule Can Launch You Into Action
I have a confession. I've never been a “morning person” and when my alarm goes off, I hit the “snooze” button, more often than not. My attempts to rise earlier have been inconsistent and hence, unsuccessful.
A couple weeks ago I stumbled across the "five second rule" by Mel Robbins. She created it on the premise is that our minds will actively resist anything it perceives as being hard because our brains are wired to keep us safe. The more we avoid doing something, the more our minds will register that thing as being unsafe, making it harder and harder to do.
The five second rule calls upon you to act before your mind can talk you out of it. Here is how it works: when it's time to do something that's challenging but would advance your goals, you count backwards from five and when you get to one, you "launch" yourself into action, just like a rocket.
I’ve gotten out of bed on time six days in a row using this technique! To learn more about it and to hear Mel’s really incredible story, check out this video.
Happy launching!
